göndör has been found more than five years ago, after a pyrotechnic show. his owners could not be spotted out. he was brought to a dog pension, where i regularly visited him and took him for walks. and i promised, that if once i would have a house and a big garden, he could come and live with me. he understood and waited for the moment. he is healthy, but nobody wanted him. he is about 6 -7 years old, and an active and cheerful guy. and he is the rigorous guard of my house!



so ist das mit den tieren und den feuerwerken und dem krach und all diesen dingen. was einigen menschen gefällt, versetzt manche menschen, besonders aber so gut wie alle tiere, mehr oder weniger in panik. besonders hunde sind da besonders arm dran. erstens hören sie viel besser als wir, und zweitens neigen sie bedauerlicherweise oft zu fluchtverhalten: während katzen sich relativ schnell irgendwo verkriechen, laufen hunde gerne vor dingen, die sie erschrecken, davon - möglichst weit.

und was lehrt uns das? hunde an die leine, bitte, wenn's donnert, und hunde gut unter verschluss halten wenn es voraussehbarerweise sonstwie laut wird. hunde haben bei manchen veranstaltungen einfach nichts zu suchen, denen kann man auch nicht erklären dass dem besitzer das feuerwerk technisch formidabel und optisch wunderbar erscheint: hund hat panik, und weder technisches verständnis noch ästhetische ansprüche.

und vergessen wir bitte auch nicht, dass die sache mit dem chippen eine gute sache ist: es geht nicht in erster linie darum, dass ein ausgesetztes tier zugeordnet und der besitzer bestraft werden kann, sondern darum, dass im ernstfall ein tier wieder nach hause gebracht werden und ggfls. auch die notwendige medizinische hilfe bekommen kann.

and please, we should not forget that the thing with chipping a dog is a good thing: it is not the main idea that an abandoned animal can be identified and the owner can be fined, but that in case of emergency an animal can be brought home and - if required - can get the necessary medical care.

juli hat als chemikerin im krankenhaus gearbeitet und entsprechendes medizinisches wissen, daher sieht sie derartige "behinderungen" aus dem richtigen blickwinkel. so ein hund hat ja vier beine, wenn eines davon nicht voll funktionsfähig ist und das tier keine besonderen kunststücke machen muss, dann ist ein wenig hinken nicht der rede wert.

Bojtár ist etwa 5 Jahre alt, ein Tibet Terrier Mix. Er wurde mit gebrochenem Kreuzwirbel, gelähmt, am Rande einer Straße gefunden Nach Operationen, vielen Magnetbehandlungen und Massagen ist er endlich aufgestanden! Nach 3,5 Monaten! Die Verbindung zwischen Gehirn und seinem Hinterteil ist nicht wieder hergestellt worden, sondern irgendwelche Gehreflexe haben sich bei ihm aktiviert, so dass er wieder laufen kann. Natürlich nicht schön, aber immerhin! Manchmal kippt er um, aber dann steht er wieder auf und läuft weiter, er ist verrückt nach dem Ball!

und ja, es ist schon klar, behinderte hunde und so weiter und so fort.

einerseits ist es ja aber so, dass man zunächst einmal nicht weiss, wie das ergebnis nach operationen und behandlungen wirkich ausschaut. das weiss man beim tier ebensowenig wie beim menschen. es gibt nur prognosen, es gibt wahrscheinlichkeiten, und es gibt erfahrungen.

und dann hat man so ein tier gefunden, der tierarzt und viele andere tun ihr möglichstes, und dann gelingt die wiederherstellung nicht zu 100%, und dann macht man bitte was mit dem tier?

das ist aber nur eine der vielen facetten. eine andere facette ist auch die realität. irgendwo muss man anfangen bei den versuchen am lebenden objekt, damit man dann einmal auch einem menschen helfen kann, oder vielen menschen, damit operationstechniken und behandlungsmethoden entwickelt werden können die menschen nach unfällen oder krankheiten wieder zu einem möglichst normalen leben verhelfen. und da ist nun einmal der tierversuch die letzte "station" vor dem versuch am menschen. da können wir uns vor lauter tierschutz und tierliebe und euthanasie-gedanken und woanders-verhungern-die-leut drehen und wenden wie wir wollen.

so sehr ich auch den verträglichkeitstest am karnickelohr - für die neueste lippenstiftfarbe - ablehne, so sehr bin ich andererseits der meinung dass auch tiere das recht auf bestmögliche medizinische versorgung haben. dass dabei der finanzielle aspekt - und die möglichkeiten der besitzer - nicht ausser acht gelassen werden dürfen, ist eine sache. dass nach derartigen operationen und notwendigen entsprechenden behandlungen auch ein platz für das tier gefunden werden muss an dem es entsprechend gut versorgt werden kann, ist eine weitere.

aber wenn ich mir hier so frau pixy - die ja auch so ein "lebender tierversuch im wohnzimmer" ist, anschaue, und wenn ich daran denke wieviel liebe, anhänglichkeit und lebensfreude in ihr und bojtár stecken, und wie wenig mehr mühe ein hund mit handicap macht als ein völlig gesunder hund, dann war und ist das den einsatz für uns alle wohl wert.

und sicherlich können die erfahrungen, die so gesammelt werden können, auch einmal menschen helfen: mut machen, hoffnung und den willen zum durchhalten geben, und nicht-locker-lassen, mit einer behinderung leben, und sich nicht unterkriegen lassen.

ohne - manche - tierschutzvereine, vor allem aber ohne menschen wie juli, würde uns wohl eine menge fehlen.


die zweisprachige version entstand so: juli sandte mir die photos und eine deutsche beschreibung ihrer hunde - eine freundin von ihr spricht sehr gut deutsch. juli und ich schreiben auf englisch, da juli gerade erst angefangen hat deutsch zu lernen (was macht man auch sonst als pensionistin, ausser sprachen lernen). sie versteht geschriebenes deutsch sehr gut, aber sie hat dieses blog ein paarmal bei ungarn verlinkt, und ich kann ja nicht ungarisch. und so dachte ich, es sei eine gute idee die englische übersetzung gleich hierher zu stellen. und das macht auch die blogeinträge viel länger ...

Bojtár is about five years old, a tibet terrier mix. he was found with a broken lumbar vertebrae, paralyzed, at the side of a street. after operations, many magnet treatments and massages he got up at last! after 3,5 months! the connection between his brain and his hind legs has not reconstituted, but some walking reflexes have been reactivated so that he can walk again. of course not normal, but he walks. sometimes he stumbles and falls, but then he gets up again and walks on, he is crazy for his ball.

and yes, we all know, dogs with handicaps and so on.

on the other hand, you do not know in advance what the outcomes of surgery and treatments will really be in the end. this is not foreseeable in animals as well as in humans. there are only prognoses, and probabilities, and experiences.

and then such an animal is found, and the vets and many others do the utmost they can, and the animal does not recover to 100%, and then you are doing what with the animal?

but this is only one of the many facettes. another one is reality. you have to start somewhere with the experiments on living objects, so that someday you can help one person, or many persons, and so that surgery techniques and treatment possibilities can be developed to help people after accidents or illnesses to lead a life as near to normality as possible. and in such cases the animal experiment is the last "station" before the experiment in humans. this is a fact, and we can squirme and writhe as we like regarding animal care and love for animals thoughts on euthanasia and somewhere-else-people-are-starving.

and as much as i depreciate compatibility testing on the rabbit ear - for the newest lipstick-colour, that much i am convinced that an animal also has the right for the best possible medical treatment. of course it is a fact that financial aspects - as well as the possibilities of the owner - have to be taken into account. and additionally, it is obvious that after such operations and with special treatments necessary a place has to be found where the animal can be taken care of according to its needs.

but if i look at miss pixy here - and she is such a "living animal experiment in the living room" as well, and when i think of how much love, addiction and love for life are in her and bojtár, and how little more trouble a handicapped dog makes compared to a totally healthy dog, then all the efforts are and will be worthwhile for all of us.

and surely some of the experiences that are made this way will someday be able to help people: giving them courage and hope and the will to keep going on, and not to peg away, live with a handicap and not bounce back.

without - some - animal care organisations, but above all without people like juli, we all would miss a lot.



the multilanguage-style happened such: juli sent me the photos and a german descrition of her dogs - on of her friends is speaking german very well. juli and i are writing in english, as juli just started on learning german (what else do you have to do after retiring from work, except learning languages). she understands written german well, but she linked this page to some hungarian friends, and i do not speak hungarian. so i thought it would be a a good idea to put the english translation right here. and it makes blog entries so much longer ...
